On Tuesday, the Woodhaven Lacrosse team went against Gross Ile at Woodhaven High School. This is the second time the two teams will be competing. The first time the two teams went against each other, it resulted in a win for Gross Ile with the final score being eleven to four. For Tuesday, the Warriros came out for a redemption and a shot to retake a win, but the ending resulted in another loss for the Warriros, losing three to twelve.
The game was held at Woodhaven High School, with weather conditions not being ideal, but both teams came ready to win. Woodhaven’s schedule for home is one to three, with the hopes of gaining another win and improving their record. However, that couldn’t be the case, and ended up making the Warriors record two and seven.
All three goals that were scored came from senior Dean Salem. One goal came from the first, second, and third quarter, leaving the Woodhaven team completely scoreless in the final quarter. For the Gross Ile team, it was spread around pretty evenly, causing the result of the match to go in their favor.
With this match coming to an end, this puts Woodhaven at a record of two and seven, and being 110 in Michigan. The program started two years ago, and Woodhaven is the only team in Michigan to be Co-ed for boys and girls lacrosse. Last year, the team ended the season with a record of four and eight.
Following this loss, the lacrosse team took on St. Mary Catholic Central; however, the results did not change, and the Warriors ended up taking another loss. The final score of that game ended three to sixteen, with St. Mary taking home the win. This game would put the warriors at a record of two and eight.
Senior Dean Salem managed to score two goals this time around and had help from Junior Jeffrey Adamisin, who scored one goal. This wasn’t enough at the end of the game. St. Mary won, and this now puts the Woodhaven Warriors at 114 in Michigan. The question that remains is whether the Warriors can win their last two games and have the same record as last year or fall short of that goal.
The program was started two years ago when it was announced to be Co-ed. This was shocking to a lot of people, considering only a few high schools in Michigan are Co-ed, and Woodhaven falls into the category. The lacrosse team is rebuilding and hopefully will be a well-established program in the years to come. The only thought is how long it will take for this to come, and how many seasons the Warriors will have to lose to finally be a good opponent.
So with the season coming to an end, the team only has two games left, which will be against Allen Park on the seventh, and their last game will be held against Lincoln on the twelfth. All that can be hoped now is to win out the season and begin rebuilding and focusing on the next year.
