Anabel Hernandez-Vasquez is a senior on the Woodhaven Girls Varsity Tennis Team. She is number 1 doubles on the team with her partner Caitlin Kolodziejczyk. For leagues this year they received 3rd place. I interviewed Anabel on how her tennis season was this year as a senior.
What made you join tennis?
I wanted to do a sport and it looked good on college applications.
What was your senior year on the team like? Did it feel different?
It was new and not like before. It did feel different because I went from 4 doubles last year to 1 doubles this year.
What do you like about the sport?
I like that your can either play by yourself or with a partner
Will you continue to play now that you’re graduating?
I will definitely continue playing with my friends. I might try out for Detroit Mercy’s club team.
What is your favorite memory from tennis?
Going to get frozen yogurt with the team.
Why did you choose doubles over singles?
I chose doubles over singles because I like having someone to depend on, I don’t constantly have to give myself a hard time.
What is one piece of advice you would give to underclassmen trying out?
Definitely to practice any chance you can get.
Did you face any challenges playing tennis?
Yes, I was injured a lot. I got a tennis elbow this season.
What is your favorite tennis skill?
My favorite skill would have to be my serve because I have a lot of power on it.
Did you have a goal for yourself since it was your senior year?
My goal was to try and get a jump serve this year, but I unfortunately did not.
