Coming straight from the Woodhaven Theater Company, the producers have been crafting several spooky Halloween performances that interpret numerous ghost stories from diverse cultures. With many performers excited for a very special aspect of the play: there is no director-made script! You heard that right. The performers get to come up with their own movements and dialogue during the play, truly testing their acting and creativity. Not only that, but the actors also get to choose the story they want to interpret and how they interpret it. With their almost unlimited creative freedom, who knows what they will come up with!
The cultures that these stories come from range from Japanese cultures to African American cultures, and from well-known to quite obscure stories. While most are interpreting only one cultural ghost story, some performances are planned to have multiple stories intertwined within each other, transforming what would be multiple plays into a single, unified performance. Others plan to stray away from the original horror genre, tinting their plays with small jokes sprinkled within the story to keep audiences interested and to add more variety to the performances.
As detailed by the organizer, Michael Clemons, if there are no unexpected interruptions, the performance dates should be expected to be on October 22-23 after school. The plays will last for approximately one and a half hours, with each play being around 5 minutes in length.
By now, the performers are already done with writing their scripts and starting to practice their lines! With these spooky ghost stories just around the corner, are you excited for their finished performances or scared to see what horrors await?
