Parking Lot chaos has erupted this school year.
Last year we had an organized parking lot. It made the parking less chaotic. It also helped staff because they had everyone’s parking lot numbers . and they knew whose car belonged in each spot. There are some positives with the new parking lot system, like getting a better spot, being next to your friends.
Here, Mr. Vesperman gives his opinion on the student parking lot situation: “The new student parking lot system, while not the most popular change, has been successful. The main goals behind its implementation were focused on safety. Students are now pulling into the first available space rather than driving through the lot to find a preferred spot, which reduces unnecessary traffic and potential hazards. In addition, the system has helped spread out morning traffic, as some students are arriving a little earlier to secure a closer space”. A lot of students believe that there has been more chaos these last two years. buses are also causing problems for students: They are taking up a lot of room and a whole exit.
I don’t like the idea that you have to get here to get a better spot, because if you’re late you have to park in the back of the parking lot, then flush to the other side of the school just to be waiting an even longer time. The main problem is not getting there, it’s leaving the parking lot. I personally have almost gotten hit by people pulling out of their spots.
I have interviewed one of the students at WHS, Kyle Scamp and he gave us his opinions well as personal experiences. “There being only few exist to the parking lot and not being allowed to leave through the lights until after the busses have gone forces students wait and sometimes I have had to wait almost an hour just to leave school and I find that ridiculous, imagine having to go to school for 8 hours just to wait an extra hour to leave while STILL having homework and other activities that NEED to be addressed in the same day. There is simply not enough time in one day to get everything done with all of these hindrances. This is also the first year the seniors do not have their own parking which I find to be disrespectful. Imagine having to be told for an entire year that only the seniors are allowed to do certain things and then when you are finally a senior you don’t get those privileges at all”.
Most of the students will agree with me that trying to leave or find a parking spot is chaotic. Kyle’s quote makes me question why the seniors this year get all these changes?
