As the weather starts to get cooler and the leaves start to change, basketball season is just right around the corner! The Warriors are lacing up and are ready to hit the court in hope of an unforgettable season. Last season, the Warriors finished 3rd in the league with a record of 14-10. This wasn’t the ideal record they were looking for, but the Warriors are hungry and confident they can re-take the Downriver League once again. When asking Coach Scheffler about what goals he has set for the team heading into the season, his response was, “We need to be the best conditioned team in the league and give 100% Effort & Attitude every day.” With the strong mindset from Scheffler, the Warriors are ready to put in the work and prove why they belong at the top of the league.

With the season nearly a month and a half away, there is great excitement among the coaches and players. When asked about new players, Coach Scheffler indicated that, “Multiple players from last year’s JV team are ready to step up and be key contributors to the varsity team this season.” This group of eager players could bring a fresh perspective of positivity and depth to this team.
When asking Scheffler about the biggest challenge the team has faced this preseason so far, Coach said, “We haven’t had any challenges, but more so great workouts.” The Warriors have been focusing on consistency and creating a strong connection, using each practice as an opportunity to build chemistry within the team. With the players impatient to play, the preseason hasn’t been about breaking down the barrier, but instead, sharpening every player’s skill to reach the next level.
The coach also mentioned something positive about the team’s growth and commitment within the weight room and the gym. Scheffler claimed, “Commitment to getting better. We had a great summer, and we are excited for this season.” With a new sense of urgency and passion for the game, the commitment has been shown with players optionally attending workouts and practices to ensure the season goes their way. With hope and dedication, this team has shown, this could be one of Woodhaven’s best basketball seasons yet!
