Here at Woodhaven High School, the Cross-Country team has demonstrated its resiliency and dedication as the season is coming to a close. Cross-Country isn’t just a sport where you run and try to get first place; it’s not just about speed, it’s about strength and motivation, pushing yourself to get better each day. The team has done a lot to get to where they are, pushing each other every day to get better.
Senior Griffin Demyanovich said, “Being part of this year’s cross country team has taught me that a dream isn’t meant to make the current you feel worthless, it’s meant to pave the way for a new adventure.” This demonstrates how being on the cross-country team enables athletes to adapt and learn, seeing goals as achievements and opportunities.
Now, let’s dive deeper and look at one of Woodhaven’s top Standout runners. One standout cross-country runner is Pierce Scheffler. He’s a great runner, especially in his long-distance runs. On September 14, 2025, he ran an impressive time of 16 minutes and 10 seconds in the 5K, which secured the Warriors’ first place overall. His Personal Record for the 5K is 15 minutes and 34 seconds. This performance gave the Warriors
more motivation to strive and work harder. Pierce said, “I can say with confidence that we are the most tight-knit team in the area, we hold each other accountable for workouts and recovery, while also bringing each other up. We are family, and work with each other, each step of the way, which is why we are at the place we are.”
This illustrates why the team is so close to each other and why they all care for each other. It also demonstrates how they are holding up so tough throughout the season and continue to help each other out. The teamwork that they’ve shown has helped throughout the hard season the team has gone through. Senior runner Sydney Czopek said, “Being part of the cross-country team has been one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had throughout high school. This team has brought me some of my closest friends and has made me so many memories. The Warriors only have a few meets left in the season and are trying to finish strong. Also, they’ve shown that cross country isn’t just about running, but pushing through all the hard working practices together as a team.
