Are Easter prom dresses in?

Are Easter prom dresses in?

It’s officially prom season, which means students are thinking about their outfits, hair, plans for the day, and many other to-dos for their special night. If you’ve been on TikTok recently, you would have seen there is a huge rave about this new trend of prom dresses—they call it “easter dresses.” Many TikTok users are sharing their opinions on these types of dresses, which are a different style than the trending prom dresses in the past decade. Many social media users disapprove of this trend commenting things like “What? These aren’t prom dresses. Looks like a church dress,” or “cute brunch outfits,” while others are more accepting saying things like “Wear what you want, don’t worry about what someone else is wearing,” or “why are we hating on young girls.” Others are in the middle with opinions saying that both are acceptable.

Popular brands like Sherri Hill, Jovani, and Ellie Wilde are profiting off young girls on prom night. In 2024, prom has taken a shift when it comes to trending prom dresses. Girls have begun wearing long, floral, light-colored dresses that people have named “Easter dresses” because some of them give off an Eastery vibe. They are much less expensive and less flashy than a typical popular prom dress.

A difference between these dresses comes in prices. According to Amarra, a designer dress brand, the average price for a prom dress ranges from $85-$700. Many people can not afford these types of prom dresses. The new wave of Easter dresses ranges from about $60-$150 because these dresses are coming from less expensive franchises like Altar’d State, Amazon, Lulus, Nordstrom, and other name-brand stores.

Many girls are posting TikToks wearing the new “Easter” prom dresses and are receiving backlash from users who think their dress is not prom-worthy. Whether or not girls’ dresses are what you imagine as prom dresses in your mind, I think girls should be able to wear what they want on their prom night. Just like any other new trend, you will have people who have an opinion whether it’s to agree or disagree. Fashion is something that is constantly changing and it’s why the clothes we wear now are different from clothes worn in the 1920s or 1960s.

People have a strong opinion about the new “Easter” prom dresses, but this opinion could be harmful to girls who are trying to feel and look their best on this special night. Feeling confident, and comfortable in whatever you wear to prom is what truly matters.
