10 Questions with…Giada Muti

10+Questions+with...Giada+Muti
Emma Loger

Junior Giada Muti has a busy life with having to go to school for the day and then having to go to the gymnastics gym for 4-5 hours per day. This year, she competed in Regionals and soon went to Nationals. She competes for Mills Gymnastics in Southgate, MI. Learning new skills every week to make her the strongest gymnast she can be. In school, she gets good grades and makes her homework a priority to get done to make sure she can still compete.

At what age did you start doing gymnastics?

I started gymnastics when I was around 3 years old.

What made you get into gymnastics?

I started with little kid dance and cheer classes and a parent told my mom I looked like a gymnast, so she put me in that and it stuck.

Expand on the different levels of gymnastics. What level are you?

well in USAG gymnastics there are 10 levels and from there you can go the elite and Olympic route or to college gymnastics. I am a level 10 at Mills Gymnastics and plan to go the college route.

What is your strongest event in gymnastics? Weakest event?

My strongest event is either floor or beam. I have a lot more skills in those two. My weakest event is bars, but it’s getting better.

How do you stay mentally focused even though the meet is not going well?

I tend to get super hard on myself so staying focused has been a challenge especially when a meet is not going well. Most times I get a pep talk from a coach or teammate which pulls me back into a focused state, or I take a few deep breaths and go through my upcoming routine.

Do you want to do gymnastics in college? If so, what is your dream school to compete for?

I definitely want to do gymnastics in college. My dream school would preferably be somewhere warmer, but I would be happy anywhere as long as I’m still flipping around.

How much do you practice a week? How do you balance school and gymnastics?

I practice 5-6 days a week for 4-5 hours. Balancing school and gym can get a little stressful at times, so I try to get most work done at school or right when I get home from practice in hopes of not having to stay up super late.

Moving to school, are you taking any AP classes? If so, which ones?

Yes, I am! This year I’m taking AP Pre-Calculus, and last year I took AP Psychology. Next year I plan on taking AP Statistics.

What do you want to major in college?

In college, I want to major in Elementary Education to become a teacher.

What are you most excited about in your senior year?

Next year I am just really excited to make a lot of memories and take in the moment especially since it’s my last year in Woodhaven and at Mills. I want to try and take my senior year day by day so I can soak up my final years!
