This school year is suddenly coming to a close, and it sure has been a busy one. Currently, the Woodhaven Theater Company members are finishing up their finals and getting ready for next year. With these finals, a lot of influential students within the company will be graduating, which will leave room for new people to join the company. Along with the new members will come unique plays and perhaps even different directing styles. This does leave one question, though. What will the future of the theater company look like? Let’s take a look at what will come of the Woodhaven Theater Company.
Starting with the more well-known, the theater company will still perform in the Michigan Theater competition. The competition, organized by MIFA, will make other schools butt heads with each other using select play performances. Another event that the company will continue with is Playfest. Playfest is a one-day event where several student directors show their short plays that they organized.
For the new changes, notable members like Cooper Fondaw, the director for the competition theater entry Eurydice, will be graduating and leaving the company. While this year’s class was one of the largest in the company’s history, a sizable chunk of it will be left open for other people to join. In addition to this, the requirement to take Intro to Theater before play production is rumored to be removed in the future. The removal can help people more easily get into acting in plays, but there is a risk of inexperienced actors slowing down production and quality improvement.
The theater company is changing, that much is for certain. Whether these changes help the company is yet to be determined, but the future is still looking to be a positive one. The company is still growing and looking for more members to participate in the productions. All they can hope for is a bright future.
