As us senior close out the year one last time, I think it would be a good idea to go over the changes WHS is facing next year. Good or bad ones? That’s up for you to decide…
Starting with: retirements! Announced at the May 12th board meeting, both Mrs. Meyer and Mrs. Rennie are retiring at the end of this year. If so, I wish them a wonderful summer and a fantastic next year. Make sure to say goodbye before they go!
On a similar topic, there will be a minor change in things sporty. Rumor has it that Mr. Christnagel’s daughter, Natalie, is gearing up to be the next WHS athletic director. Her job will entail direction of all sports moving forward, starting next year. And with her previous experience in high school sports, such as track and field, everything is bound to go well. So, get ready to welcome her into her new position. Along with this WHS is also introducing a new business teacher. Makenna Shell, a Woodhaven alumni, will be making the switch from Wyandotte schools to return here once again.
We have new Advanced Placement classes next year, too. This includes AP Business coming about, which will be taught by Mr. Taylor. We have Honors Sophomore English becoming AP Seminar as well, changing the class from a more advanced challenge to an actual AP credit. It will be taught by Mr. Dobruk.
And last but not least: In the 2026-2027 school year, the headphones/earbuds ban will begin to be enforced as a part of the school’s no phone policy. You, allegedly, will not be allowed to wear headphones or earbuds anywhere during school hours. This includes in the hallways. The punishment for breaking these rules is still unknown, but I assume it is the same for breaking the current cellphone rules now.
And that’s everything I know so far. I wish everyone a great summer, and hopefully these changes won’t be too disruptive for anyone.
