Woodhaven Book Club has officially launched for the ‘25-’26 semester, uniting under a genre they have never pursued before. The book in question? 2022 horror novel by Natasha Preston, The Fear.
Despite launching 3 years ago, this novel serves as the first horror book they have ever read together. Previous reads include Vicious (V.E. Schwab) , and Incarceron (Catherine Fisher); but this book embarks on new themes. Woodhaven Book Club chooses their annual book with a vote at their first meeting of the year: this year, 7 books of varying genres battled it out, with a sole victor being chosen by the end of the meeting after a tie-breaking vote.
According to Book Club Vice President Emily Reed, you should “Come and connect with other people who enjoy reading,” stating that “you can discover new genres” and that “anyone is welcome.” Each semester the club has a total reset: new books, new themes, and usually many new students. Meeting every other Thursday, the club will have another vote for a book in January. Mrs. Janice offers free books for students who cannot obtain them themselves, ensuring anyone who wants to participate has the opportunity to.
President of the club, senior Vriana Becker, revealed to the Purple Pulse that “Book club is a great way of getting to know other students who may share similar interests to you. In the last couple of years I have made a lot of close friends through Book Club.”
For more information on participating, Becker stated that “We are open to anybody wanting to stop by. We are also starting a new book next semester, so if you missed out on our current one, there’s always next semester to join!”
