Last weekend, our city’s annual tree lighting ceremony took place, filling the streets with laughter, music, and the delicious scent of hot cocoa. Families and friends attended, bundled up in scarves and mittens, excited to be a part of the holiday festivities.
The evening opened with complimentary cups of rich, steaming hot cocoa, in case visitors wanted to warm up. Stationed nearby was a gift shop. Inside, there were shelves with baked goods like snickerdoodle and chocolate chip cookies alongside unique handmade gifts and ornaments perfect for seasonal shopping. A highlight for many was meeting a real reindeer, drawing crowds of children and adults. For those wanting a hands-on experience, antlers and fur samples were available, offering a rare chance to feel the textures up close. Inside, two mascots, one dressed as a snowman and the other as a reindeer. They were taking pictures with people to add to the festive spirit.
As the night continued, the crowd gathered around to watch the lively parade. Floats, marching bands, and shimmering light displays made their way down the street. Christmas music played as children waved happily from the sidelines. Adding to the excitement, both the junior varsity and varsity dance teams took center stage with their full energy, meaning everything to the audience. The varsity dancers, decked out in matching Santa hats, brought extra to the celebration.
Eventually, each person was waiting for the moment the holiday season would officially begin. The tree being lit into a bright color of magical lights, applause filled the air, and everyone looked at the tree in admiration. Gathering the community together and sharing different things was a celebration to remember.
