As you may have heard, Mr. Pibb is making a comeback! It’s a Christmas Miracle! After years of waiting, fans can witness the ferocious rebranding and re-releases of cherry-soda Mr. Pibb (also known as Pibb Xtra, and Peppo) from the Coca-Cola company. But what exactly does this mean for our dear old Dr. Pepper? Along with Pibb’s revival, there is a sinister reason behind it: The replacement of Dr. Pepper in Coke brand drinking fountains nationwide. You read that right, Dr. Pepper has ended its partnership with (Reyes dist.) Coke, causing the stopping of its distribution by the company. No cause for major alarm, though, Dr. Pepper is NOT discontinued. It will still be available on shelves, just with the (Keurig)company behind Dr. Pepper acting as its own distributor. But no more drink fountains featuring Dr. Pepper, for now.
Besides, which side will you take up in this? Are you a Dr. Pepper fan through and through, or will you accept and advocate for the overtaking of Mr. Pibb? I’m personally more of a Dr. Pepper fan myself. Within the most recent taste test of Mr. Pibb I had, I was shocked. With how many Mr. Pibb fans were coming out in support, I honestly expected it to be on par, possibly better than Dr. Pepper with taste. To my disappointment, I was met with a watery, more “spiced” but less flavorful (somehow), mediocre, and bland drink. On one hand, I’m happy for Dr. Pepper’s newfound autonomy. On the other hand…I will miss my beautiful, radiant, unique, 23-flavor blend being commonly available in restaurants.
