With a struggling record of 1-5, it is certainly not what the Woodhaven Varsity Lacrosse team had hoped to accomplish this season, but the record doesn’t reflect the improvement and dedication of this team. The team has demonstrated these struggles when facing strong and difficult opponents. Coach Alek Lukacs reveals the improvements needed in the team, the hurdles they have faced, and whether their record represents how they have performed during the games.
The reason for the team’s poor performance at the beginning of the season of the team can be attributed to their “inexperience, inconsistency, and transition” as claimed by Coach Alek Lukacs. With a new coach this year, the team needs some time to learn “a new system and style of play.” He also pointed out that it had affected the players’ fundamentals, decision-making, and rhythm during their first games this season, which led to the rough start.
After talking with Coach Lukacs, the Purple Pulse has discovered that he does not believe that the team’s performance has been represented by their record. “I don’t think our record truly reflects the level of play that we’re at right now.” Noting that the team had already demonstrated “some progress” since their first and second game against Cass Tech. “We definitely have some differences in terms of competing and executing, and in terms of carrying ourselves.” Overall, the team is progressing, despite what the record shows, and he noted that, “It will take time before we can string it all together.”
Despite the fact that the team’s performance is not what they would like it to be at the moment, it is most certain that they are beginning to make some progress and improvement. Considering the fact that there is a new coach and also a new system being implemented for the players, it will definitely take some time for things to really click into place. But once it does, they are sure to be unstoppable.
