Throughout the season, the Warriors really began to develop together, not only on court, but off the court as well. At first, they were still learning to play as a team, so they weren’t playing just as individuals. However, as time went on, their chemistry and camaraderie really improved. The boys were able to trust one another more and began playing together as a team, rather than trying to do it on their own. Coach Scheffler claimed, “At the beginning of the season, we were a bunch of individual basketball players. As the season progressed, our chemistry started to blossom. On the court, we started to share the ball and trust each other. Off the court, the guys hung out with each other and became a family.” This growth helped the team become more connected with each other as the season progressed.
For the Warriors, it was a big deal for them to take the district title, especially after the way the last season ended. The team was very motivated this season to play Bedford. The coach claimed, “We were really upset about how last year ended and made a decision that wasn’t going to happen again this season.” The team really put in the work in the offseason, which was a huge want for them to return stronger this season. Scheffler added, “The boys worked their butt off in the offseason and preseason, which at the end paid off.” This showed how much they wanted to return stronger this season and accomplish their main goal.
Woodhaven’s district championship win will certainly be remembered as a special moment in the program’s history. With strong leadership from the seniors and the quick development of the underclassmen, the Warriors were able to develop a culture that led to their success. Moving forward, the seniors will leave a great legacy for the underclassmen to follow. They have truly shown what good leadership and dedication can do to make a season so special and memorable.
