The girls’ varsity bowling team dominated the downriver league, going 14-1, winning the district, and coming 6th in regionals. Kiersten Farkas advanced to states, as well.
The team’s domination in the league started with a dominant victory over Wyandotte. After losing a challenging game, they went on a monstrous 13-game win streak and finished the regular season with a blowout victory over Carlson, securing the outright league championship.
Kylee Gibbs speaks on the key to their success, “The key to success in bowling is having a clear head. Bowling with a calm mind makes your game 10x better than when you’re upset. Having fun while bowling with the team is also really important. This year was extra special to our team because our team has not changed since last season and our bond has become much stronger because of that.”
The team had many hard-fought victories against teams like Edsel Ford, where they won 19.5-10.5 with high scores from Kiersten Farkas (160) and Diamond Pastorius (152), along with many others who contributed to the victory, and Carlson, winning 16-14.
Faith Winton describes the team’s improvements throughout the season, “This season, we improved in keeping ourselves in check and having the confidence necessary to perform well and win our matches.”
Along with the team’s success in winning the league and districts, Kiersten Farkas was one of the stand-out stars, finishing 51st in states.
When asked what the key to their success was this year, Ashlyn Houston responded, “The relief of winning brought my teammates confidence, as we had not won the championship for as long as we had been on the same team. We all felt like we had accomplished something wonderful.”
Despite all this success, the team’s season ended up coming short in regionals. They were unable to advance, placing 6th out of 12 teams. They left it all on the lanes. Although this team ended in a loss, it has paved the path for future success in the program with its dedication, hard work, and relentless passion for the game.
