The Quiz Bowl season for the 2025-2026 school year has officially begun! A select few of our incredibly intelligent students at Woodhaven High School compete against other schools in a difficult trivia competition. A Quiz Bowl match works like this: four students from each school compete against each other in a Jeopardy! style compétition. Question categories range from core school subjects such as science, literature, and mathematics to pop culture, music, and sports. According to Woodhaven High School Senior Lauren Klindt, her favorite subject to compete in is “math, because I feel that is where I am the strongest, but my second favorite is movies and the characters in them”. Speaking of the latter, the team did quite well in a difficult “Great Gatsby” category during their last match.
So far, the Quiz Bowl team has competed against Trenton High School, Riverview High School, Carlson High School, and Southgate Anderson High School. They won the first two matches, lost the third, and made a swift comeback in the fourth match. As of right now, they are ranked first in the alpha division and third overall. There are currently twelve players on the team, but any Woodhaven High School student can join by showing up for practice in Mr. Keith Weimer’s classroom, B-102. The team practices every Monday after school from 2:15 to 3:15. In addition Lauren Klindt, the team is composed of Seniors Eva Smith (Team Captain), Ava Gray, and Kendall Stearns, Junior Ava Gutowski, and Sophomores Landon Melton and Tessah Garcia. Together, they possess an eclectic mix of knowledge that can help lead them to victory.
Want to get in on the action? Contact Mr. Weimer or show up to any future after-school practice. The Quiz Bowl Team can’t wait to have you!
