When creating your class schedule, it is always a time consuming process, whether you are trying to figure out what you like or if you are trying to find advice on what classes are better to take throughout high school. Luckily, the Purple Pulse staff sent an email to all the seniors so they can give their input on what students should think about when they are trying to pick their classes. There were a few short questions asking about what students’ favorite classes were to take and what they recommended taking in high school. Along with that there will be information provided about AP classes and DCTC classes.
When you begin working on your schedule, make sure to ask about AP classes. AP stands for advanced placement and are college level classes that are taught in high schools across the country to help students get ahead. When a student takes the final exam for that type of class, they are graded on a scale of one to five, most colleges take three, while others may only take a score of four or five. This program allows students to get college credit as a high schooler. Another special type of class you can take is DCTC which stands for Downriver Career Technical Consortium. There are 33 different classes that you can take and they are all geared toward preparing students for the workforce. Some of these classes include cosmetology, welding, automotive, and dental.
The final question that was included in the survey asked what classes seniors would recommend taking during high school. The answers were all over the place, but many recommended that students should join a music class. Senior Skylar Winton said “Choir / band – if you like music, don’t be afraid to join one or both of these classes, I promise nobody will care.. The community is very welcoming, funny, and sociable. Many students in the choir/band are also linked with the theatre company.” Skylar gave multiple class recommendations for students to take and also mentioned a school club that many choir students are involved with. Many students say that the performing arts classes at Woodhaven feel like a big family.
Senior Breanna Urban had given her opinion on the classes she recommends as well. “Broadcasting and Choir, honestly if you wanna have a good time and fun and make new friends those are the two classes to take. I cannot tell you how many new friends I have made in those classes and how many times I have laughed in those classes. It was just a really great experience in all with the classes and the teachers are amazing.”
