The High Schools’ Honors Chemistry Classes run by Ms. Garavaglia, presented in the glassed-in area on Tuesday, April 21st, during 2nd and 6th hour classes. Everyone who wanted to show up was invited, like administrators, teachers, parents, and whoever else wanted to come. While labs are normally guided in these classes, these students were all expected to come up with their own lab and procedure on how to use Sodium Bicarbonate with rubbing alcohol or vinegar to produce a certain amount of CO2 and get a goal of 100% yield, which is the amount of product they were supposed to produce after their chemical reaction. Some students got really close to their end goal and met it, while others were unfortunately farther away. Even if their goals weren’t met, these students overall learned some valuable things about chemistry, such as how to make their own lab/processes, using chemical equations, and that you’re not always going to do it right the first time, it takes multiple tries for something to become an experiment.
