The Woodhaven boys’ golf team competed in their 3rd Varsity DRL Jamboree at Riverview Highlands Golf Course on April 24, coming in second place with a total score of 166 against Allen Park, Southgate Anderson, and Taylor.

Senior Billy Sennett took first place overall with a score of 36, shooting 1 over par. He had 4 par holes as well as 2 birdies that contributed to such an incredible score. Sennett continues to beat other successful golfers in the Downriver league and is moving his way up each time. Sennett’s score has been an incredible part of Woodhaven’s success. He is working to secure his spot in the Downriver League.

These six golfers proved their potential with their low scores. There were 3 golfers finishing in the top 10 at this match. Junior Cameron Deon placed 5th with a low score of 42. He had an impressive birdie putt on the very last hole along with his two other par holes. He has shown his hard work early on in this season by putting up outstanding scores despite being a first-year varsity golfer.

Deon said, “Obviously the main goal for everyone is to take that state championship title home, and that’s the same for me. The big goal for me is to make it to the state championship match with a team, not individually. After we make it to the final match, we play our hearts out and put everything on the line to win that title and it will happen.”

Senior Jordan Leuffen came in 6th place with a score of 43. Leuffen has moved his way up each match and has beaten many opponents. He is working to finish off his last season on a good note.

The other Warrior golfers also came close to the top 10. Junior Austin VanMarter placed 16th with a score of 50, senior Joey Palazzolo placed 11th with a score of 45, and junior Benny Dimilia finished in 20th place with a score of 56. These golfers have been very consistent with their scores and frequently placed close to each other, which is crucial for the success of the team and its position in the Downriver League.

The team has another chance to place in the top 10 with their 2nd tournament on May 2nd at the Lakes of Taylor Golf Course, hosted by Southgate Anderson.
