The Woodhaven Girls Varsity Volleyball team dominated the Marauders in one of the biggest rivalry matches of the season.
The team takes every opponent seriously, but they knew from experience that the Marauders were going to be a challenge.
Comfortable on their own court and drawing energy from the home crowd, the Warriors took the lead in the first set and won 25-7. The Warriors held their own with the combination of Jayla Martin and Jalynn Wilmot at the net.
The Warriors held their play through the night and won the last two sets 25-16 to send the Marauders home with a loss.
The Woodhaven-Carlson game shined a spotlight on senior leadership of Jayla Martin, Olivia Rozycki, and Ashlyn Koester as the team kept the crowd on its toes.
Martin considers communication and matching of movements to be the team’s biggest challenges, and says that as the team bonds, the communication continues to get stronger.
Rozycki says, “With it being the first home game, there were lots of nerves, but even with the nerves, the team still did an outstanding job.”
Koester, the libero, stated her inspiration was, “always the older girls watching them play, I wanted to be them.”
With these girls being seniors putting all of their effort and taking their last moments on the court as an opportunity, these girls continue to excel.
Being a volleyball player is not easy but as every individual has their own strength, it keeps the young team strong and ready for each and every play.
