Woodhaven track takes on Allen Park at dual meet

The Woodhaven track team traveled to Allen Park to face their team for the first time this season in a dual meet. 

These teams are usually very competitive against each other and come close with scores. 

Last season the boys team beat out Allen Park three out of the five times that they faced each other. But they were neck and neck score-wise. 

The girls team also stayed neck and neck with Allen Park’s team but got beat three out of five times they faced off. 

The meet started strong despite the cold, wind, and rain, with Woodhaven showing dominance across the board in the 4×800 relays. 

In the boys 110m hurdles, Allen Park came back to take the top two spots but despite that Tahj Ferguson took the third spot running 17.86s. His sister Rosci Ferguson took the second place spot in the girls 100m hurdles running a 20.27s. 

In the 100m dash, Nick Henson and Maurice Tyler took the top two spots running 11.53s and 11.86s. For the girls, Jayla Martin, Myonna Ekanem, and Addison Martin took home the top three spots in the 100m running 13.3s, 13.55s, and 14.21s. 

After the dominating performance from both the boys and girls team the 4x200m was next. The boys relay teams claimed the 2nd and 3rd place spots with times of 1:39.45 and 1:49.56. The girls relay pushed through and got third place running a 2:13.87. 

In the 1600m, Pierce Scheffler took the top spot running a 4:49.29. He was closely followed by his teammates Vincent Jones, Mateo Reyes, and Griffin Demyanovich. In the girls 1600m Payton Scheffler took the top spot running a 5:49.16 and Raelyn McLaughlin came in right after her running a personal record of 6:03.59. 

For the 4x100m, the boys teams captured the second and third place spots with second place being 0.17s behind Allen Park. The girls 4x100m teams took the first and third place spots with the winning relay running 54.55s. 

For the 400m, Liam Warner took 3rd place running a personal record of 55.76s. In the girls race, Jayelynn Lines, Lilly Diaz, and Andrea Watts ran the top three times. The girls ran the times of 1:08.85, 1:11.45, and 1:12.83. 

In the 300m hurdles, Tahj Ferguson took second place running 50.33s and Trevor Nguyen came in close behind him running 52.57s. Carmyn Dumas was the only girl running for the girls and came out on top running 57.81s. 

With the meet almost over it was time for the 800m. Evan Smith took the first place position running 2:11.27. On the girls side, Elliana Perugi took first running 2:45.12 and Joslyn Bechtol took third place running 2:55.35.

In the 200m, Maurice Tyler and Jaiden Manuel came in second and third place running times of 25.42s and a personal record from Manuel of 25.70s. Myonna Ekanem, Chiamara Ogbonna,  and Isabelle Kriebel took the top three spots running 27.27s, 29.13s, and 30.64s. 

For the 3200m, Pierce Scheffler came in third place running 11:03.82 and being only .10 of a second away from first. Payton Scheffler was the only Woodhaven girl to run and she took 1st place running 12:33.53s.

In the last event of the day, the 4x400m relay the boys relays took first place and third place, with the winning relay running a time of 3:47.56s. It was the same placements for the girls relays as well with the winning relay running a time of 4:38.12s. 

Overall both the Woodhaven boys and girls teams came out on top despite the conditions.
