During February, Woodhaven High School hosted many activities to celebrate Black Excellence.
Every day after school, there was an announcement about important African American figures currently and in the past, who are a big part of history.
Also, the Women of Woodhaven and the Black Student Alliance combined and had a tea party that signified African American women and the different careers that they pursued in their lives. Club members printed out photos and let people pick who inspires them the most, and they made vision boards with the photos.
At lunch, BSA set up a booth in early February and had students fill out who they are inspired by on a sticky note and then place it on a poster that abbreviated Black History Month.
BSA also decorated a small piece of the PBLZ with green, black, and red paper. Last but not least, Woodhaven’s audition band wind ensemble, taught by Bradley Farynariz, dedicated a concert for Black History Month. They performed seven pieces; one piece was conducted by Mr. Damien Crutcher from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The name of the piece was called Snookie; another piece, named Still Water, was conducted by Dr. Arris Golden from Michigan State University.
